    The Hungarian and Romanian transmission system operators (TSOs) plan to have a new 400kV interconnector operational by 10 December, Mavir, the Hungarian grid operator told ICIS Heren on Thursday (27th November). According to the Romanian grid operator, Transelectrica, the 60 km link, which will run from Oradea in Romania to Bekescsaba in Hungary, is currently undergoing final tests.

    CEZ has signed a memorandum of understanding with Romanian company Termoelectrica to establish a joint venture (JV) in order to upgrade its Galati power station, it announced on Thursday (20th November). The Czech incumbent will be the majority shareholder in the company.

    Romania’s economy ministry confirmed that all six companies that had shown initial interest in the expansion plans of the Cernavoda nuclear plant had been signed up to build units 3 and 4 of the plant.

    The Romanian government is considering selling up to 15% of Nuclearelectrica, the company which runs Cernavoda nuclear power plant, the ministry for economy told ICIS Heren. It is believed the monies raised by the flotation will contribute to the construction of the new units at Cernavoda.
